Stocks and Parts for Gun Manufacturing

March 24, 2014

“Based on production data from firearm manufacturers, there are roughly 300 million firearms owned by civilians in the United States as of 2010,” according to JustFacts’ gun control page. “Of these, about 100 million are handguns”

Guns are complex machinery—with moving springs and parts that require precise manufacturing. With such a high number of firearm owners in the U.S., there is a high demand for these components and their accessories. The website breaks down the main types of firearms (not including semi and fully automatic weapons) as follows:

  • Rifle
  • Shotgun
  • Handgun
    • Revolver
    • Pistol
    • Derringer

While there are tweaks and different aesthetics to these different products, they all require barrels, triggers, and many mechanical pieces internally. To fully understand the complexities of this application, check out the video below to see a revolver in action:

You might have noticed in the motion where the hammer compresses a metal spring in the handle, which sets off a series of motions and triggers the spring to drive the hammer forward, forcing the primer to explode and, eventually, the bullet to fire. This is how TE-CO’s workholding products fit in.

At TE-CO, while our products are in a variety of industries, including aerospace, energy, and much more, we also play a part in gun manufacturing—our spring plungers provide pressure in various firearm applications. As you saw in the video, it’s impossible to fire the weapon without some sort of spring motion, propelling the process. For more information on our spring plungers, head over to our website.
